Road Trip to the South Texas Corn Maze

This 7-acre maze is a must!

Back in October of 2015, I wrote an article called Seven Day Trips Perfect For Fall for Austin Monthly Magazine. In my article, I featured Graff 7A Ranch which is home of the South Texas Corn Maze. Every year, The Graff 7A Ranch creates a new maze design by planting Sorghum Sudangrass in a unique pattern and that year the maze was in the shape of Texas.

After writing about a giant 7-acre Texas-shaped corn maze I just had to see it for myself. So, I woke up early one Saturday morning and decided to make the nearly two-hour road trip from Austin to Hondo.

I wasn’t disappointed when I arrived. There’s a lot to do at Graff 7A Ranch, and it felt great to be out in the country. However, I highly recommend that you jump in the car and see it for yourself!

Some ancient looking scarecrow tree. Aren’t my captions poetic?

What To Do

I wish I would have taken more pictures of the farm because there really is a ton to experience and it’s beautiful—even at night! Highlights include:

  • ?Pumpkin Patch: They’ve got pumpkins to carve and pumpkins to bake.
  • ?Apple Cannons: The nice people at Graff 7A Ranch will let you launch an apple from a cannon. What better way to get in the fall mood?
  • ?Hayrides: Hop on the trailer and tour the farm.
  • ?Campfire rentals: Reserve a cozy campfire or large bonfire to sit around when the sun goes down. Don’t forget to BYO hot dogs and marshmallows!
  • ?Farm Animals: Pet a goat, watch the pig races, or ride a horse.
  • ?Live Music: Listen to local bands & dance the night away.
