If you’re looking for things to do and travel tips for visiting Belize, then you’ve come to the right place! I visited Belize back in 2019 on a Royal Caribbean cruise.

I only had the day to explore the South American Country of Belize but managed to soak in the local culture and do some very unique activities while there.

Travel Guide: Things to do in Belize City

Here’s how I spent the day in port.

Caye Caulker

Heading to caye caulker belize? Check out this guide on where to eat and what to do on the island near belize city.

With a limited amount of time in Belize, I really wanted to explore Caye Caulker. From the cruise port, you can walk to The San Pedro Belize water ferry terminal and take the ferry to this popular island off the coast of Belize City.

This 5-mile-long island is known for great snorkeling, diving, restaurants, and beach bars.

There are also plenty of places to enjoy the beach and ambiance.

Although there are more than 50 restaurants on the island, I don’t remember eating on the there as we had to return to the cruise ship pretty early.

But I did enjoy a coconut which was available to buy right outside of the cruise ship port entrance.

Belize Barrier Reef Snorkel Tour

Once on Caye Caulker, my group was able to find a local guide to take us to snorkel the barrier reef and swim with the nurse sharks.

Although I initially was a little wary of the nurse sharks swimming so close to me, it was an incredible experience to have them swim so close. The coral was also very colorful and full of native marine life. If you only have time to do one thing while in Belize, I definitely recommend this experience.

The Split on Caye Caulker

The split in belize is a great local gem to grab a cocktail and snorkel in Caye Caulker

After snorkeling the reef, my group went to The Split, a natural channel devising Caye Caulker in two. It was originally created by a hurricane in 1961 and now it’s the island’s most popular hangout.

The Split is also a great spot for swimming, snorkeling, and soaking up the sun and sipping cocktails at The Lazy Lizard Bar and Grill. The Split perfectly captures the laid-back charm of Belize and its “Go Slow” mantra.
